Information > Finding The Geese From The Air
For anyone who has been to another dropzone, they will know just how small and sometimes hard to find the landing area at the geese is. Even if you haven't been to another dropzone, more than likely on some jumps you find yourself openning and spending a while looking about trying to figure out where you are. There are a few land marks that can be used to figure out where the landing area is if you open and cannot see it, or if it is partially cloudy. In addition to these, you should always try and be aware of where the spot is for the day.

If it's towards Garvagh you can use it as a landmark. If the opening is above the hanger side of the runway, you know you can use the Quarry. If the opening point is past the far end of the runway (away from Garvagh) you can use the Bann. Opening on the far side of the runway away from the hanger is the most difficult as there is no easy landmark but alot of small green fields. You can still use each of the 3 landmarks however, they will be further away though and may just take a few more seconds to pick up.
Follow The Roads From Garvagh

The most straight forward and simplest to follow. Most people know what Garvagh looks like. You will virtuallly never open on the far side of Garvagh so the geese will always be somewhere on the near side. Follow the roads from the cross roads at the centre of the village and you can find your way back. If your not exactly sure which road, about 1/3 of the way from the geese is a small forrest you would drive past which makes it a little easier to spot the direction quickly. There is a yellow canopy above it in this photo.
The Quarry

Probably the most useful landmark for finding your way back is the Quarry. It's size and colour make it easily spotted. To make it back to the geese, take the curved access road which runs alongside it and take a line going through either end of the access road. This will point directly back to the hanger.
The Bann

Another easily spotted landmark is the River Bann. As it is further away than the Quarry, if the angle you take is slightly out it may not take you perfectly back to the geese. There are 2 positions you can take off the river to find your way back. The 1st is a Z shaped weir. Take the flat bottom part of the Z (not the slanted part) and extend it out from the river, it will take you roughly back to the geese. In addition, there is a bend just North (look for the coast if you need to figure out where North is) of the weir, if you extend the line of the bend it will also take you roughly back to the geese.
