Like many beginner skydivers, I opted to take a tandem skydiving course as my first parachute jump. That was because the instructor handles all the important bits like navigation and opening the parachute. Surprisingly, all it took was 20 mins and I was ready to skydive harnessed to my instructor.

After donning my tandem parachuting harness, I boarded the airplane with my instructor Baldrick and the skydiving cameraman! He reassured me he was very experienced and made me feel confident. On the way to 15000ft, I looked out over the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside. I had picked a fine day for skydiving and could see all the way to Hull and Lincoln. Baldrick tightened all the straps and did the final checks before walking to the door. No turning back now.

Before I knew it, we were freefalling at 120mph towards the ground. It was exhilarating to say the least and nowhere near as frightening as I expected. I can only describe the sensation of skydiving as being akin to swimming, there's no falling sensation. At around 6000ft, the parachute opened and I found myself chatting to Baldrick as we slowly glided back to the ground. This took a good 4 or 5 minutes and the views were amazing. Landing was a very graceful sliding in on my bum and there I was, one skydive later. I can't recommend this enough and if you get the chance go visit Skydive Hibaldstow and do a tandem jump.

The meetings are now over for this year and will recommence in September. It was great to see so many students training this year and then jumping to get qualified or even doing the one jump is a brilliant experience.

Don't forget summer is the best time to jump, the days are long and the weather should be a lot better than the winter so make to most of it!!! The DZ is open every weekend and if enough people get together mid week can be possible to.

07.12.10 Website update

All our training courses for 2010 have now been completed and 66 Queens students have trained since October. Hopefully next year we will have many more training.

Our Christmas dinner in on Wednesday 15th Decemember, this is the last meeting and event of the year.

26.10.10 Training so far

This year is turning out to be busier than anyone thought and some people that trained last week have mannaged to do 3 jumps so far! Hopefully the weather will stay good and many more jumps will be made before christmas.

06.10.10 Start to the year

Congaulations to Calum and Alex who are now A licence Skydivers and have started their WARP levels, great work keep it up!

The Freshers bazaar was a huge success with over 150 people paying membership and many more showing some interest.

The first event of the year is next Wednesday the pub crawl keep an eye on the forum for the route but we are starting in Laverys at 7.30pm

02.09.10 Latest news

It has been a whle since the last update. The trip to Gap has given some people the chance to get qualified, and after a few more jumps at home everything will be sorted out.. There has been some jumping over the summer with the Strathallen group coming across, the activity day, and the "next levels." It is good to see people are still keen and wanting to jump. Keep an eye on the events section to see what is happening over freshers week and during the next term.

The movie section is also being updated, so if anyone has a video they would like to put up let me know. The photo gallery has not been updated in a long time as well, so again if anyone has some photos they can be added to it.

06.05.10 May Day weekend & End of the year

Videos from last weekend have been uploaded on to facebook and will be uploaded to our movie section shortly. The out come from last nights AGM has been posted on the forum, congratulations to all prize winners and next years committee

12.03.10 Website Update

The website is now under the control of myself Eddie after several years of excellent service by Martin. I have updated the Events section for the next few things and will keep practicing on how to work this and try to get the best of QUBSC September to December up soon.

21.12.09 Next Level Photos

New collection of photos from a few months of Next Level jumps i videod are now up in the photos section. Eddie has a best of QUB best of video which is currently on facebook, will be trying to add it to the website shortly.

07.07.09 Geese Big-Way Skills Camp Photos

Photos from the jumps at the weekend are up in the photo section. Unfortunately a lot of the freefall shots were write-offs due to lens fogging problems for virtually the entire weekend, luckily the video didn't suffer the same problem, but haven't gotten around to editing that yet so expect it later in the week.

06.05.09 8way Video and May Day Weekend Big-Way Skills Camp

Mike Murphys video of the third 8way from two Saturdays ago is now up in the movie section along with the video for the first two dives. Below are some photos from the May Day weekend past, most of them are by Eddie Monteith and are of the Big-Way training dives run. The entire gallery can be found here. Big thanks to Gordon Hodgkinson, Ronan Whelan, Jim Gunning and Collum McGovern for their expertise! I was expecting to be putting more photos up but the lighting on Sunday wasn't great.

The videos for both the 8ways from Saturday past and a couple of Team Anvils 4ways can now be found in the movie section, all by Eddie who is single handedly proping up the movie section of the site as of late.

The 3way competition that never happened at least gave us some cool 8way shots. Some of them are below, 8way photos were taken by Eddie. No videos just yet, they will hopefully be winging their way online some time in the next week.

Also congratualtions to Nuala and Karen who passed WARP levels, Ryan with a smiley face for getting to freefall and Paul, Eimear and Andy who got their spotting done for JM1. Everyone has to tap Paul and Eimears full face visors in the plane now in celebration that they can actually wear them!

05.04.09 More Photos and Videos

Finally some new material for this year. New video of a couple of jumps from Sunday is now up along with the photos that were taken along side them. Some of the best ones are shown below. Enjoy! Sorry to all the static liners who turned up for the recap and didn't get to jump because of the winds, stick at it, you'll get some good jumping days sooner or later.

28.03.09 Photos and Videos

Before you ask where these have come from, no they are not from over the winter... since the weather has been an almost total wipeout. Freefly video and FS footage is from last year and was taken by our new most experienced member in terms of jumps, aka Eddie Montieth. The other video is from the Airkix tunnel session myself, Paul, Mark and James went to. Unfortunately half the footage refused to rip from the DVDs properly into the editing programme so we are missing many, many (many) bloopers.

Also there was a collection of random photos that have been sitting on my hard disk for ages that i thought I'd put up. Most of these were actually Skydive Mag submissions. There are some wingsuit photos form Mike Murphy and some shamrock chalenge photos from Ralf Tartaglia as well that most people won't have seen.
